History of the Camera Phone
The Samsung SCH-V200 was the first camera phone manufactured and was released in June 2000. In order to view your photos, you had to hook the phone up to a computer.
The first camera phone that could electronically send photos was the J-SH04, released by the Japanese company J-Phone (now SoftBank Mobile) in November of 2000. Two years later in November 2002, the United States released their version of the camera phone, the Samsung Sanyo SCP-5300. The phone could capture shots at 640 x 480 pixels.
By the end of 2003, over 80 million camera phones had been sold. In July 2004, Sprint released the PM8920, which had the ability to capture shots at 1280 x 960 pixels. This phone had certain features, like being able to record a shutter sound and the ability to take up to 8 photos in a row.
Camera phones give almost anyone the ability to capture an event and share it with others.
