Making Selections in Photoshop
Rectangular Marquee Tool
To use the rectangular marquee tool, click on one corner of the rectangle and drag to the corner on the opposite side.
Pro: Easy to use, good for rectangles. Straight, fixed selection.
Cons: Restricted to rectangles, can only be used horizontally and vertically, not diagonally.

Elliptical Marquee Tool
When adding the moon to the city nightscape photograph, I surrounded the moon with the elliptical marquee tool. When editing the photograph of the couple, I used the elliptical marquee tool to surround the top portion of their bodies.
Pros: Easy to use, good for ovals or circles. Clean edges.
Cons: Restricted to circles and rectangles.

Magic Wand Tool
To use the magic wand tool, I clicked on the sky and held the shift button in order to select all of it. After that I used the inverse feature in order to surround the building, which allowed me to replace the sky.

Quick Selection Tool
To use the quick selection tool, highlight the areas you want to isolate. I highlighted the person and the wheel barrel, then switched to subtraction mode and erased the spaces in between the person's arm and the bottom of the wheel barrel.

Cons: Can be rough sometimes.

The Lasso Tool
To use the lasso tool, click and outline the object you want to isolate. Holding Shift while drawing will add to a space you missed, while holding Alt will subtract from a spot you didn't want to highlight.
Pros: Smooth, able to control where you want the line to be.
Cons: Time consuming.
